PlantWise has no accounts, no logins and no database of visitors.

Photos

When you identify a plant, your photo is shrunk in your browser and sent once to our server, which passes it to an AI model through Vercel AI Gateway to get an identification. PlantWise does not store the photo. The AI provider processes it under its API terms, which do not use API inputs for training by default.

Questions you ask

Questions typed into “Ask PlantWise” are sent the same way to generate an answer and are not stored by us. Don’t include personal details.

Location

Your ZIP code, town or device location is sent from your browser directly to public data services: phzmapi.org (USDA 2023 zone data, for US ZIP codes) and Open-Meteo (place search and historical temperatures). PlantWise’s server never sees it.

Stored in your browser

To save you retyping, this site keeps the following in your browser’s local storage, on your device only: your last location and its frost/zone results, your last 12 identifications (with a small thumbnail), and your “My plants” watering log.

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless and does not build personal profiles.
